What is Reactive Design, and how long have you been in business?Reactive Design is a multidisciplinary production company that has been operating in the Sea to Sky corridor for 25 years, serving our clients with all their visual branding needs, from graphic/web design to content creation. We're a close knit team of adventure lovers and thrill seekers that brings our camera on every adventure.
-
What types of clients and industries do you specialize in?Reactive Design often works closely with business owners, marketing leaders, and event planners. We serve a diverse list of industries ranging from internationally recognized hotels, tourism boards, tour operators, event organizers, and realtors. We step into other fields as well and pride ourselves in our adaptability - if you have a story to tell, there's a good chance we can produce it for you!
-
Where is Reactive Design based, and do you work with clients outside the Sea to Sky corridor?Reactive Design is based in beautiful Whistler, BC and we pride ourselves in helping our local clients grow and attract more visitors to our stunning mountain town. Our experience in the tourism and drone space has allowed our teams to travel globally for work. We are happy to travel within the Sea to Sky corridor and outside for the right projects.
-
What sets Reactive Design apart from other media production companies? We're humbled everyday to be surrounded by the best talent in the world in Whistler! Our recipe for success and longevity is our commitment to lifelong learning, our adaptability to technology & industry trends, and, most importantly, the close relationships & friendships we develop with our clients. We're eternally grateful to be able to live, work, and play in the most beautiful place in the world, so we give each project our all & don't rest until everyone is stoked with the outcome.
-
Who makes up the Reactive Design team?Reactive Design was founded by acclaimed local artist, Stacey Bodnaruk, as a web design business, and grew into a full service visual branding agency with Marc Dionne as head of photo, video, and drone services. Chris Granicolo currently runs RDIs operations as their GM & point person for all productions while Marc continues to offers support between his international production commitments.
-
Do you offer consultation services for clients who are unsure of their project needs?Of course! We often hold "creative development" sessions with our clients during the pre-production phase to break ideas down, brainstorm concepts, and discuss project logistics.
-
Can you help with creative strategy or branding, or do you only focus on production? Our main focus currently is content production and drone services - but we are looking into offering digital, design and social media services again in Summer '25.
-
What is the typical turnaround time for projects? Each project is different and has a unique set of deliverables. Depending on workload and current shoot schedule, we typically can deliver a first round of content within a week for photography and 2 weeks for video. During your initial discussion with our team, we'll be able to accurately forecast content turnaround and update you during the project.
-
Why should I choose Reactive Design over hiring a freelance videographer or photographer?Reactive Design has been serving the Sea to Sky community for over 25 years and has become a go-to resource for countless locally cherished companies grow their businesses from humble beginnings to local institutions.
-
Are you licensed to operate drones in an Advanced Operation in Canada? We are! We hold our Advanced Operations Certificate and are licensed by Transport Canada to fly RPAS (drones) in Canada and within controlled airspaces for commercial purposes.
-
What are the legal requirements for using drones in commercial projects? If a flight path is within controlled airspace (near a heliport or hospital for example) and you are flying a drone over 249g in weight, then you need to have approval from local air traffic authorities and municipal representatives to have a safe & legal flight. Fines are possible if an operator does not have clearance to fly and we ensure all flights are safe, legal, and insured!
-
How does weather affect drone operations, and can you reschedule shoots if needed?Weather plays a major role! In summer, our clients are often chasing golden hour sunrises and sunsets, while in winter, fresh snow with blue bird conditions. Sometimes these "just right" conditions are hard to pinpoint, but we use accurate weather and sun tracking systems to try to nail down shoot windows. We can reschedule if necessary and discuss this with you during the outset of the project.
-
What is pre-production, and why is it important?Pre-production is the time and energy that is devoted ahead of a project to ensure a seamless production. This is when we plan, meet, develop concepts, location scout, write scripts, organize models, and complete drone permits. We have to "write the book first before we make the movie." Pre-production is an essential component to all of our projects.
-
How long does the pre-production phase usually take?It can range from a half-day of time to several days depending on the production scope and complexity.
-
Can you help us with scriptwriting and storyboarding?Of course, that is a core part of our work. We will work closely to translate your vision into an actionable script and develop storyboards to help plan our productions.
-
What input do you need from us during pre-production?Focus, passion, and energy! This is a very fun part of the project, full of anticipation and excitement. We'll work closely to ensure your vision comes to life.
-
How are locations, permits, and talent coordinated? We know Whistler intimately and can travel/suggest locations based on our understanding of the Sea to Sky corridor. We complete all permitting, handle insurances and coordinate talent through our pool of models.
-
What does a typical production day look like with Reactive Design?Once we're on site, we'll review the shot list and schedule with the team and client to ensure everyone is aligned. The day typically involves setting up gear, capturing footage , and collaborating closely to adapt to any on-site needs or creative opportunities.
-
Do you handle all the equipment needed for the shoot?Of course! We bring all the necessary gear, including cameras, drones, lighting, and audio equipment, so you don't have to worry about rentals or logistics. If specialized equipment is needed, we'll discuss this during pre-production and arrange it on your behalf.
-
What kind of prep do clients need to do before the shoot day?Oftentimes our clients help with site logistics & permissions. They also lend a hand with the creative process, sometimes acting as directors while we aim to replicate their vision with our camera equipment.
-
How long does post-production typically take? Each project is different and has added layers of complexities. Depending on deliverable size and current workload, we typically can produce an initial edit/first draft within two weeks of a shoot. Turnaround schedules will be discussed during pre-production and updated with the client during the project if there are changes.
-
What is included in your editing process? Our skilled team of editors are adept at assembling all the footage into a cohesive narrative. We can adapt to the editing style required/brand guidelines. We play in the realms of polished, professional and clean/corporate style videos, but can also adopt a more abstract editing style if needed. We are adept at adding custom visual graphics essential for branding and will colour grade/sound design the footage to provide a cinematic & immersive final product.
-
Can we request revisions after the first cut?Absolutely! We offer two rounds of revisions complimentary in our service. Any revisions afterwards we track at our hourly rate. We will ensure all criteria for the project/edit are discussed in pre-production so that our first cut is in line with your vision. We ask that all stakeholders involved in the project watch the first cut we present to ensure the second round of revisions only feature minor adjustments. We will have music pre-approved by the client before we begin editing.
-
In what formats will the final videos be delivered?Any non-final videos will be shared via Vimeo for easy sharing amongst stakeholders. Once a video is approved, a Final will be delivered for download via Google Drive. We can export videos with differing levels of resolution and compression, depending on its intended platform of viewing. We can create both vertically oriented (9:16) and landscape oriented (16:9) versions of your videos.
-
What budget sizes do you typically work with?At Reactive Design, we tailor our services to fit the unique scope and complexity of each project, with budgets typically ranging from $2,250 to $10,000. For larger, more complex projects, we’re happy to discuss customized pricing that reflects the specific requirements and vision.
-
How do you structure your pricing for projects? We are time based and track in half day increments. Our pricing is custom and in our initial conversations we'll be sure to dig deep into the project details to ensure we can accurately estimate our services. A rule of thumb we follow is for photography services, our post-production time is 1:1 to shoot time (one full day of shooting = 1 full day of editing), and video editing, 2:1 (one full day of shooting = 2 full days of editing).
-
Do you offer packages or custom quotes?Of course! We work with businesses big and small and can tailor projects to various budget sizes. All of our quotes are custom and it is required we hold a discovery meeting to fully understand project scope.
-
What does the project fee include? Our project fee covers the full production process, from pre-production planning to the shoot itself, and editing time. Our gear and team are fully insured and we come to the projects with updated, top of the line equipment, ensuring your footage will look & sound great and be relevant years down the line, protecting your investment.
-
Do you require a deposit before starting a project? We do! To secure our services and book time on our production schedule, we require a 50% deposit up-front and the remaining balance is paid before final content is released or 60 days after the project initiation. For projects under $1,500 in size, we ask for payment up-front.
-
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my project? We understand that schedules can change, and we strive to be flexible while maintaining project momentum. The deposit is non-refundable if the Client cancels, terminates, delays, or reschedules the project beyond the agreed-upon "Project Finish" date. Exceptions are made for rescheduling that is mutually agreed upon by both parties. This policy ensures fairness and keeps the production process running smoothly for everyone involved
